Waiting on Wednesday (1)

This is our very first Waiting on Wednesday post!

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine!

My pick for this week is going to be:

Passion by Lauren Kate
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 464 pages
  • Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young
  • Readers
  • Publishing Date: June 14, 2011
  • Language: English

Before Luce and Daniel met at Sword & Cross and fought immortals at Shoreline, they lived many lives. . . .

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

I am soooo on a Fallen kick right now! I'm in the midst of reading Torment and all I can say is ....I want more! I was a little bummed at first that Passion is going to be about Luce/Daniel's past lives but at this point I really don't care! I want to know everything about these two! The cover art always stuns me. I do find it a little odd that she's facing the readers on this cover instead of facing away like she is on Fallen and Torment. It's still a gorgeous cover though! I love the colors!

Also, if you haven't had a chance please check out our very first character interview/giveaway with Kim from Awakened (by Ednah Walters)

Thanks for stopping by!

Dear Monday:

         Dear Monday:

I really really don't like you.

          Sincerely,

          Brandi

Lol. Today has been one of "those" days! I spent half of the morning freezing my butt off b/c our heater decided to start acting crazy. Thankfully we were able to get the repair man out here asap and now I'm all toasty and comfy again. Oh...and....I finally have my hands on TORMENT! I can not wait to devour this book! I practically stalked my mailman today waiting for him to put the "brown package" into my mailbox. Of course, as soon as I saw him shut the lid I was dashing outside like a mad woman and doing my fan girl dance. Lucky for me my mailman has seen me spaz outside before for no apparent reason. So, he's used to it by now! I love book mail!

Book mail is seriously the best mail!

Ah.

Love.

It.

Anyways, if you have already please please please stop by and enter in

Right now we have a total of two people (which is AWESOME by the way lol ty!) that have entered. So the odds are looking pretty darn good! lol. Also, don't forget that tomorrow Becca Fitzpatrick is going to be doing a chat hosted by FallenArchangel and MundieMoms. (You can't see me but I'm doing my fan girl dance over that for like...the...100th?...101th? time since I first found out about it! lol) So be there or be square!

Interview with Kim from Awakened by Ednah Walters (Giveaway)

Brandi and Angella were lucky enough to sit down with Kim from Awakened and have a nice....well kind of nice conversation about what's going on with her and more importantly Bran..cough cough I mean the other guardians we all know and love! lol

Here's how it went:

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Hiya Kim! Thanks for stopping by our little blog! How have you been?

Kim (sits, crosses her legs and cocks her brow, a cynical smile on her lips): Fine...considering everything.

(Brandi shifts uncomfortably while Angella quirks an eyebrow back and says)
Oh my...Guardian troubles?

Kim (studies the two girls and sweeps a wisp of blonde hair from her forehead, her smile disappearing): How much to tell them? Human are so annoyingly inquisitive. "Guardians don't have issues. We've been taking care of you since the beginning of time. We know what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Things are changing, that's all. " (brushes off an imaginary speck off her white pants and studies her white-tipped acrylic nails) "The line between demons and us is blurring, and that's never a good thing. "

(Angella ponders about what Kim has just said while Brandi frowns and and quietly says)

No that's not a good thing at all. You must be under a lot of stress at the moment....are the others coping well with the added pressure? Are things still tense between you and Lil?

(Which puts a smirk on Angella's face because everyone knows about Kim cheating during the sword fight with Lil... competitive much?)

Kim (shrugs): We have ways of dealing with stress. Sykes gets a new girlfriend (rolls her eyes). Remy cooks. Izzy writes poetry. I...(waves a hand to indicate her designer outfit and boots)...shop. And for the record, things were never tense between us. Lil is impulsive and softhearted, and has a lot to learn a bout us and how we do things, who to trust and who to keep at a distance. Guardians don't have the luxury to be sentimental.

(Angella laughs) Lil sounds a lot like Brandi! Love the boots by the way. You may be hard to get along with but you have an excellent fashion sense

(Brandi is beyond horrified at this point and is determined to make it through this interview alive...) "So Kim. How is your guardian training going? Are you any closer to being able to go out on missions alone as a group or are the older Guardians still holding you back?"

Kim (studies Angella, the corners of her lips lifting in a half-smile ): *I like this human, and that's not something I say often.* I think people misunderstand me, Angella. I'm very easy to get along with, uh, as long as we do things my way. (Cocks her eyebrow at Brandi, who stares at her slaw jawed). Have I shocked you? I'm sure you think I'm being arrogant, but I see things a lot more clearly than most Guardians. I wish they'd stop fighting me and just follow my example. As for training, we never stop . It's the way we stay in shape and improve our skills. And yes, we're hunting now. The old geezers are still in control, but we get to go out on our own and vanquish some pesky demons (smiles as she recalls her last kill).

(Brandi straightens up and smiles) "Vanquishing Demons? Sounds fun!"

While Angella pipes up and says:
"Ok Kim enough of this Guardian talk. Let's get to know you a little...Who is your favorite designer?

Kim: Hmm, how shall I put this? I like pretty things and I tend to shop according to my mood. I like Louboutin boots and I got this (lifts her shiny, calfskin handbag) Prada Vernice a few days ago, but when it comes to clothes, I like to be comfortable. I might wear a Valentino dress today and kick back in Elie Tahari top and Misty legging jeans.

Brandi looks at Kim dumbfounded

Angella smirks and says: "Eh, Prada Vernice...not bad I guess. I'm more of a Chanel gal, myself. So when you're not vanquishing demons, training or shopping(rolls eyes) How do you spend your free time? Or do you even have any free time?"

Kim (purses her lips):  I love good food.  Between school, training and hunting, Izzy and I teleport to some town and check out the local cuisine a nice restaurant.  (She smiles).  Or we just go to Remy's.  He's an amazing cook.

(Brandi is still amazed by all of the names Kim easily rolls off her tongue and is ,of course,  starving now that she's mentioned food!) Well Kim, Thank you so much for stopping by our blog! I hope we haven't wasted too much of your time! We're both looking forward to seeing what you and the rest of the guys are up too in the next book! Any hints that you would like to share? (Brandi asked hopefully)

Angella is distracted with Kim's boots AGAIN but has the decency to add: "Oh yeah thanks Kim! I hope you're cooperating with Ednah! I'm not sure how she puts up with you rattling off in her brain most days. That would totally drive me crazy!"

Brandi (rolls eyes) "Oh, Angella! Kim just ignore her.  She's about as blunt as they come." (Kind of like Kim. Brandi thinks to herself...oh goodness she's just asking to have her brain zapped)

Kim (smiles at Brandi):  It was no problem.(lifts her chin and cocks an eyebrow at Angella)  I don't rattle.  I just suggest stuff.  As for Ednah, she can't predict what's going to happen next, but we have a new group of demons that's keeping us busy.  You'll know soon enough how we deal with them.  I've got to go.  (teleports in a burst of tiny, sparkly lights)
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Review: Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris

(Goodreads l Amazon)

  • Paperback: 320 pages
  • Publisher: Ace Trade (March 2, 2010)
  • Language: English
  • Rating:
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse is on a streak of real bad luck. First, her co-worker gets murdered and no one seems to care. Then Sookie is attacked - and poisoned - late one night by some weird and apparently mythical beast. She only survives because the local vampires roll up and graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn't enjoy it). But in return the blood-suckers need a favor.

Which is why Sookie ends up in Dallas, using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire, on the condition that her undead friends don't do anything, well, vampiric while she's there. Easier said than done. All it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly...
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Living Dead in Dallas was a really fun easy read! Once again our beloved Sookie Stackhouse is back for another mystery. Unlike Dead Until Dark, Living Dead in Dallas opens up on a down note. Poor Lafayette (the short order cook at Merlottes) has been murdered. Everyone in the small town of Bon Temps knew Lafayette lived an "extreme" lifestyle (being the only very proud openly, gay, African American resident of Bon Temps). But no one would ever have wished him dead... or maybe they did? Poor Sookie is upset that no one seems to be concerned about who killed Lafayette so she makes it one of her personal priorities to bring some peace to her deceased friend.

As always things never run as smoothly as she hopes and before she knows it she has a run in with a "creature" in the woods who informs her that she has a message for the Area 5 Sheriff. The message is none to pretty and almost kills Sookie.

Before Sookie even has time to fully heal she's summoned to Fangtasia (the local vampire bar in Shreveport) to do the bidding of the Area 5 Sheriff, Eric Northman. Who in the book is described as a tall viking sex god lol and of course this isn't the first time Sookie has had to "help" Mr. Northman and the vampires out. Especially now that she's dating Vampire Bill. She pretty much has to do as Eric bids because Eric is above Bill and Sookie "belongs" to Bill so she's viewed as a possession of the vampire community. Sounds pretty shady huh? Well it's vampire politics! lol Something humans would never fully understand and neither will the reader but you learn to over look it haha. Eventually Sookie ends up in Dallas looking for a missing vampire and has a run in with an anti-vampire cult aptly named The Fellowship of the Sun.

After a few bang ups and one vampire burning to a crisp Miss Stackhouse finally makes it back home to Bon Temps only to find that she's been invited to an exclusive party that just happened to be one of the last places Lafayette had visited. Will Sookie find out what happened to Lafayette? Or even have a hot make out scene with the Viking God himself? I'm not telling!!! haha Charlaine doesn't disappoint with this follow up to "Dead Until Dark"! This is definitely one of my all time favorite series!

Dear Richelle Mead:

You rock my socks.

Seriously.

I'm not sure how I missed this interview but it is full of  awesomeness!

Esp this gem right here:

"I wouldn’t want to extend it, beat it into the ground for the sake of sales or popularity. I wanted to end it on a high note. I’d rather have people wishing the series would’ve gone on than to say ‘Oh my god, why didn’t they kill it sooner?’"

Amen to that!
 Richelle gets it.
She knows how to get her point across in a decent amount of books and then end the series so everyone can move forward.

Even though I hate that Rose's story is pretty much finished. I totally agree with Richelle about enjoying the fact that I "want" to read more. Instead of gripping about why she hasn't ended the series already. (lol)

Also there's this bit of info that had me go into a fan girl moment:

Q: You announced recently that you intend to write a spin-off series from Vampire Academy. Can you tell me anything about that?
A: It’s going to be called Bloodlines. It’s set in the same universe so we’ve got all the same world buildings, same rules, same everything…In some ways the series isn’t even ending because we’re still there and Rose will have cameos.

Eeek!
Adrian has to be in this series.
HAS TO BE!
Please, please, oh please let him be!
And if you must couple him up with someone please please please let it be someone other than Jill. I don't think I could stomach a Jill/Adrian hook up. Ugh. I'm still stuck on the fact he isn't with Rose...but I'll save that for when I actually get around to doing my review of Last Sacrifice.
Also there are a few different interviews/articles up on MTV's website that I've been reading occasionally...I really love the fact that Richelle is so down to earth! I'd love to meet her someday!
Well peeps. That's all I have for today! Tomorrow I'll have two reviews to post so I'm going to get started on those...is it just me or has this week taken forever to end!? I feel like things are moving in slow motion around here! lol

This weeks WW is Elixir by Hilary Duff. First off let me say, I for one did not think she had enough brain cells to act let alone write a book. But I think she might suprise me with this book. The synopsis sounds great, the cover is gorgeous, and it has alot of great reviews. So we shall see!

Tuesday Tunes (Jan. 18th)

Even though this song doesn't really remind me of anything I'm currently reading (lol). I just had to share it for Tuesday Tunes!

Back in the day I was the BIGGEST Britney Spears fan. Still am! So, of course when I heard her new song I went total ape shiz. I love it! I don't care if people think she sings in auto tune too much or that she's crazy. I love love this girl! haha

And I really love this song! It's been my cleaning song for the past few days! So if you haven't heard it yet please check it out!

"Hold it Against Me" by Britney Spears

That beat..oh the beat! It gets me fist pumping every time. =P

Anywho...

Now for book related news. I started Fallen by Lauren Kate yesterday and so far.... I am really into this book! Especially after Awakened by PC & Kristin Cast left such a bad taste in my mouth. This is something *I* needed. Ang will be around here tomorrow to do wishlist Wednesday so be on the look out for that! Also on Friday, Kim from Awakened by Ednah Walters will be here! It's our very first character interview! So, we're stoked about that!

Happy Tuesday peeps!

Review: Awakened (House of Night #8) by P.C. and Kristin Cast

First off I would like to apologize to this book and it's authors b/c I thought Kalona was on the cover when it is in fact REPHAIM lol

oh man oh man

I am lacking some serious brain cells!

Now on to my review!

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Awakened by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 304 pages
  • Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin; First Edition edition (January 4, 2011)
  • Language: English
  • Rating:
Photobucket

At the start of Awakened, the pulse-pounding eighth installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey has returned, mostly whole, from the Otherworld to her rightful place as High Priestess at the House of Night. Her friends are just glad to have her back, but after losing her human consort, Heath, will Zoey—or her relationship with her super- hot Warrior, Stark—ever be the same? Stevie Rae is drawn even closer to Rephaim, the Raven Mocker with whom she shares a mysterious and powerful Imprint, but he is a dangerous secret that isolates her from her school, her red fledglings, and even her best friends. When the dark threat of Neferet—who is coming closer and closer to achieving her twisted goal of immortality—and Kalona returns, what will it take to keep the House of Night from being lost forever, and what will one desperate girl do to keep her heart from being irreparably broken?

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

I was hoping that this book would refresh my love for the series but in the end it didn't come anywhere close to it.

The theme of this book is "Love".

Towards then end it's everywhere and I was pretty much rolling my eyes at every mention of it. lol I "love" books that are about love but in this book it was too forced.

Awakened opens up from Neferet's POV which was nice b/c lets face it everyone loves a bad girl but man do I hate that character. She's totally bipolar in this book and actually succumbs to "Darkness" on a very very intimate level.

Can you say Ew!

Language is everywhere in this book as are sexual encounters and while they're no where near being as graphic as some... *I* personally think that it cheapens the book. Better than the infamous "fade to black" created by Stephanie Meyer tho so kudos for that.

The highlights of this book would be (*SPOILERS*)

1. Zoey is now exclusively with Stark. Little does she know that Kalona is sharing his soul with Stark. So he can play peek-a-boo inside of Stark's head while he's getting his freak on with Z.

2. Poor Jack is killed by Neferet and of course no one can prove it. Also, she spends most of the book thinking she pretty much owns Kalona when in fact she doesn't and finds out at the end.

3. Stevie Rae's relationship with Rephaim is finally outed.

4. Nyx pays everyone a visit.

5. There's big dis on Anita Blake and Laurell K. Hamilton. Which *IMO* was lame. So so so lame.  Especially since half of the book is dedicated to Glee. Ugh.

6. Heath is coming back...not as Heath but as a soulless, mindless, slave to do Neferet's evil doing. Oh, joy!

Don't even get me started on the stereotypes that are in this book. Tasteless is the only thing that comes to mind. Especially in regards to Kramisha.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older but this books are becoming very unappealing to me. I really enjoyed the first four but after those I haven't found one that I thoroughly enjoyed...yet.
Destined is the next book in the series and even though I'll still end up buying it I really have zero faith in this series redeeming itself. Zoey didn't have any creditable character development in this book and Stevie Rae (IMO) is becoming way more interesting esp now that her relationship with Rephaim is out in the open. No one even gets a new tattoo in this installment lol that was something that I always looked forward too.

I guess when it comes down to it I think the authors are doing it for the money instead doing the series/characters any justice. I, of course, could be totally wrong but as a fan/reader I do not see the passion that they put into the characters in books 1-4 anymore. I'm curious to see how they plan on making four more books out of this mess of a plot and there's always the small bit of hope that I have that the series can redeem itself but at this point in time it's like watching (reading) a train wreck.

I really hate having to give this book just one skull but that's being nice.

On a brighter note, I hope everyone has a great Monday!

Review: Dead Until Dark By Charlaine Harris

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

  • Paperback: 336 pages
  • Publisher: Ace Trade; Reprint edition (March 2, 2010)
  • Language: English
  • Rating:
  • PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much. Not because she's not pretty. She is. It's just that, well, Sookie has this sort of "disability." She can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable. And then along comes Bill. He's tall, dark, handsome -- and Sookie can't hear a word he's thinking. He's exactly the kind of guy she's been waiting for all her life.

But Bill has a disability of his own: he's a vampire with a bad reputation. He hangs out with a seriously creepy crowd, all suspected of -- big surprise -- murder. And when one of Sookie's co-workers is killed, she fears she's next.

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Ok. Simply put: I love this book! Really I do! lol Charlaine Harris  is an amazing writer and she knows exactly how to keep your attention from the start of the book until the finish! I've been reading vampire love stories for a while now and I will admit that I was hooked on Twilight almost as much as everyone else out there but as soon as the movie came out and it blew up for some reason I felt like I needed to move on and find another series of books to attach myself too! So one night while I'm channel surfing I stumble across a  show on HBO called "True Blood". And at first the accents drove me nuts but by the fourth episode I was hooked! After the season ended I decided that I really need to check out the actual book *Dead Until Dark* by Charliane Harris.

In the Southern Vampire Mysteries Sookie Stackhouse is the main character/heroine in the series and it's her point of view that you're reading the books through. Sookie is a strong, young, and unique southern belle. I say unique b/c Sookie has been blessed *or in her words cursed* with the ability to hear others thoughts. You know Telepathy!? The poor girl has lived her whole life struggling with trying to control her ability and be as normal as possible.

Dead Until Dark opens up with a 25 year old Sookie working a the local bar in her hometown of Bon Temps. When in walks the first vampire that has ever stepped foot inside of her tiny hole in the wall town in Northern Louisiana. In Sookie's world, everyone knows that Vampires exist because two years before there was this thing called the "Great Revelation". That was when vampires willingly came out into the open to humans to let them know that they existed and didn't want to live in the shadows anymore. This was all possible b/c the vampires claimed that they no longer needed to feed off of everyday ordinary humans b/c of the newly invented Japanese Synthetic Blood.

So, Sookie is of course ecstatic to meet her very first vampire and little does she know that this vampire is going to become apart of her every day life very soon. Oh, and of course there's some people who are none to happy about a vampire being in Bon Temps. But being the girl that she is Sookie doesn't pay any attention and goes out of her way to help the mysterious vampire in every way that she can.

This book has so much more that I could write about for hours and hours but I would never do it justice! If you like mysteries. Then this book is for you. If you like to read a good love story. Again this story is for you! And if you love a good laugh then what are you waiting for! I don't know how she does it but Charlaine Harris will have you angry one minute, "oohing" and "awing" the next and before you have time to think about it you'll be laughing your butt off at some of the most awesome one liners you have ever heard!

Oh and for a fun fact: The HBO show was named "True Blood" because that was one of the name brands of synthetic blood for the vamps in the book! Also the book cover with the book summery on my blog is the shows ad. This is the actual book cover:

Wish List Wednesday (Jan. 12th, 2011)

Totally skipped out on Tuesday Tunes yesterday! I'm so sorry but it was just a horribly lazy day and by the time I remembered that I needed to do it. It was already super late!

So a big slap on the wrist to me for not doing it.

Anywho.

My pick for Wish List Wednesday is going to be......

Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 288 pages
  • Publisher: Simon Pulse (February 22, 2011)
  • Language: English

Ari can’t help feeling lost and alone. With teal eyes and freakish silver hair that can’t be changed or destroyed, Ari has always stood out. And after growing up in foster care, she longs for some understanding of where she came from and who she is.

Her search for answers uncovers just one message from her long dead mother: Run. Ari can sense that someone, or something, is getting closer than they should. But it’s impossible to protect herself when she doesn’t know what she’s running from or why she is being pursued.

She knows only one thing: she must return to her birthplace of New 2, the lush rebuilt city of New Orleans. Upon arriving, she discovers that New 2 is very...different. Here, Ari is seemingly normal. But every creature she encounters, no matter how deadly or horrifying, is afraid of her.

Ari won’t stop until she knows why. But some truths are too haunting, too terrifying, to ever be revealed.

The cover of this book is what caught my eye!
This is Kelly Keaton's debut novel so I'm excited to see what she has to over!

I'm currently reading Awakened by P.C. and Kristin Cast but tomorrow I'm going to be posting one review Vlog for Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead and a review for Daughter of Darkness by V.C. Andrews! So be on the lookout for that!

See ya tomorrow!
