Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Happy Christmas!!

How did I miss THIS!

I'm not sure how or why I missed this but check out the cover for the newest Sookie Stackhouse novel

Dead Reckoning

Photobucket

You can read the first chapter HERE

Having to wait a year between each book is pure torture! haha
I love love love this series and Charlaine Harris is on of my all time favorite authors! I remember begging my husband to let me buy the book set with books 1-7. Of course, being the awesome person he is, he did. But he also told me that I needed to pace myself and not read them all at once. I read a book a day LOL and then he was kind enough to buy me the eighth book soon after. So I've faithfully been waiting for each new book and on the day they come out I run to wally world, grab it off the shelf, and drool all over it while people give me strange looks...I think most of that has to do with me repeating "my precious" over and over again =P. I then proceed to race back home, give the hubs child duty, and read the entire book in one night!

I can't say it enough! I LOVE SOOKIE STACKHOUSE! Heck, I even love True Blood! Esp the way Bill says Sookie...haha "Sookeh". Ah! It kills me! So you can only imagine how excited I am about getting my little hands on this book!

I think I'm going to wait until my brain calms down before I even begin to start thinking (much less typing out) what the this book is going to be about! I don't think I ever recall seeing Sookie by herself on a cover so that makes my brain go off into a frenzy about where the heck is ERIC!

You can find out more information about Miss Stackhouse and her creator, Charlaine Harris, at

Now, I'm off to try and pack. I hate traveling over the holidays, but I guess it's worth it since we're going to be spending time with our families this weekend! Tomorrow is going to prob be our last post for the year (yikes!) and I wanted to do a Review Vlog of Last Sacrifice but that just might have to wait until next year as well!

Yay for Chizzmas!

New Line from Awakened (HoN) by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Photobucket

I'm actually looking forward to this book even though I didn't really enjoy the last one. lol

And judging from this line Rephaim must be getting ready to get in touch with his dark "birdy" side, huh? lol Better watch out Stevie Rae!
You can read/listen to the first and second chapter HERE

How cool is that!

Tuesday Tunes (Dec. 21st)

So, I finished up Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead last night.

It's official. I have a love/hate relationship with Rose now. lol

I'll get more into that when I post my review of it. (Which should be tomorrow hopefully!)

So, my pick for Tuesday Tunes is:

"The Chemicals Between Us" by Bush

It's very obvious that Rose and Dimitri aren't over each other by the end of the first chapter *IMO*. About 70% of the book is Rose reminding herself that she's finished with Dimitri and she's moving on with Adrian.

Spssh, yeah right!

This song was stuck in my head the entire time I was reading the novel. I'm not sure if it's because I'm on a 90's kick at the moment or what! I do think it's very fitting for the Dimitri/Rose relationship though... especially this part:

"I want you to remember
Everything you said
Every driven word
Like a hammer hell to my head
The chemicals between us
The walls that lie between us
Lying in this bed the chemicals displaced
There is no lonelier face
Than lying in this bed"

Oh yeah! Love me some Bush! lol Anyways, I'll try to post my review on Last Sacrifice tomorrow and after that HookBookers is going to go on a mini vacation until all of the craziness that comes along with the holidays settles down!

Can you believe that Christmas is only 4 days away! Yikes!

Review: Awakened (The Guardian Legacy #1) by Ednah Walters

Where to begin...oh where to begin!

Ok, the first thing that comes to mind is I love that Ednah has created a strong female lead that isn't "the norm". Lil has fiery red hair, taller than you could ever imagine, and loves gypsie skirts with tons of colors.

A girl after my own heart <3

...well I wish I had red hair...

...and I'd love to be taller than 5'4"...

...but I soooo can rock a gyspie skirt!

Anyways! Lil Falcon is our 16 y/o heroine who has never had the chance to stay in one place long enough to finish a year of school. Much less settle down and have some friends of her own. So you could imagine how lonely our girl is feeling in the begining chapters of the book. Lil suspects the reason that she moves around so much is due to her Grandfather's gypsy ways but little does she know it's actually a wee bit more complicated than that!

Enter Bran.

Oh, Bran.

You know the hottie on the cover.

Yup that one!

He kinda... sorta... breaks the news to Lil that she is in fact a Guardian. A Psi-Guardian to be exact. (And for those of you who have noooo clue what a Guardian is all I'm saying is Nephilim *which btw I think are going to be the new "vampires"!*) Grampa is a Guardian too of course! And Bran needs some serious help from said Guardians.
Much to Grampa's displeasure and Lil's newly "Awakened" hormones. =P

Did I make you giggle?
Non?
You lie!
I swear I saw a grin?
Ok ok back to my point!

That ladies and gentleman is where the first adventure of the Guardian Legacy begins.

I'm notorious for ruining books for people so I'm going to stop RIGHT THERE because I will ramble and ramble and ...well you see! So please do yourself a favor and check this book out b/c I'm about 99.9% sure you're going to love it.

There's love! There's action! And of course that hottie named Bran!

..heelllloooo...!

Seriously!

I'll even be nice and give you the link to Amazon and Goodreads

=P

The only complaint that I've heard so far is that the book is a little fast past BUT in my opinion Ednah does a fantastic job of keeping you on track with all of the twist and turns that happen with Lil...Bran.. and a few other awesome characters (Yes Kim I'm referring to you if for some reason your fictional self ever stumbles upon this!). So, you will stay interested in the book from page 1 to page 256 and of course left wanting more!

Ednah Walters is a fantastic writer and probably one of the nicest authors I've ever had the honor of talking too (via email lol) and HookBookers actually got to do an interview with one of the more sassy characters from Awakened aka Kim! So be on the look out for that as well as the second book in the series that Ednah is currently writing!

Now for the Bran.. OH I mean the cover and synopsis!

Most teens turn sixteen and get the license to drive, Lil Falcon gets the license to kill demons, but no one told her she is not supposed to fall in love with one.
Orphaned as a child and raised by an eccentric grandfather, Lil is concerned with surviving high school and is unaware she's a Guardian—a being with super powers charged with killing demons and protecting humanity. But when she meets Bran, a mysterious boy with amazing abilities, his psi energy unlocks her latent powers.
But Bran has a secret that can destroy their growing relationship. He's part demon. But in her heart, Lil knows Bran is not evil. So when her grandfather is kidnapped by a powerful nature-bender and Bran is the only one who knows where he's being kept, Lil convinces the other Guardians to trust him, not knowing her grandfather is just the bait. And the truth that she discovers in the demonic enclave may just destroy everything she believes in, unless she makes the right choice—love and sacrifice.

Trailer for Bloody Valentine by Melissa de la Cruz

Misguided Angel is still on my reading list but from the looks of this trailer...Jack/Schuyler may be over!
Say it isn't sooo!
This book is actually a novella in the Blue Blood series and it's going to have three different love stories (one of those being Jack/Schuyler)

I was actually sent a sneak peak of the Jack/Sky story through her newsletter. So if you haven't already... head over to her site and sign up for the newsletter so you can gets some sneak peaks/inside info as well!

Also you can read the very first chapter of the novella HERE

So big thanks to Melissa for sharing with us

Vampires have powers beyond human comprehension: strength that defies logic, speed that cannot be captured on film, the ability to shapeshift and more. But in matters of the heart, no one, not even the strikingly beautiful and outrageously wealthy Blue Bloods, has total control. In Bloody Valentine, bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz offers readers a new story about the love lives of their favorite vamps - the passion and heartache, the hope and devastation, the lust and longing. Combined with all the glitz, glamour, and mystery fans have come to expect, this is sure to be another huge hit in the Blue Bloods series.

Wish List Wednesday (Dec. 15th 2010)

This week my pick for Wish List Wednesday is:

Photobucket

I've heard nothing but stellar reviews for this novel!

The cover is absolutely gorgeous but what really caught my eye was this line:

"She can control her pack but not her heart"

Eeep! Totally gives me a Blood and Chocolate flash back! You know the awesome-nest werewolf novel to date (IMO) wrote by the lovely Annette Curtis Klause!

Anyways here's a snippet from Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

"While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack’s world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches’ War that surrounds them all."

You can visit the books website HERE

Atlas, another love triangle is born! I love it lol but I will say I find it highly annoying that every paranormal YA romance is constantly compared to the Twilight Saga...I mean is that nessicary? Yes I went through my fan girl obsession with Twight but I'm over it now lol it's old news to me and while I enjoyed the books they are definitely not in my top ten fav series of all time! Again this is just my opinion LOL not even sure why I'm raving about that but oh well! I'm looking forward to reading this book but I will admit I need to read the ten other books that are patiently waiting on my book shelf before I can even think about purchasing this one lol. I think I have an addiction to fiction!

Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday Tunes (Dec. 14th)

Ok this week I've not only bailed on City of Bones for a spell. I've actually cheated on it with Last Sacrifice

LOL

I love love love this book!

Can't say it enough!

Although, a lot of people dislike it for the same reason I'm enthralled by it...number one being there's tons of humor in all of the wrong places...but hey I guess I'm morbid b/c I actually prefer it that way!

Of course the big pink elephant in the room is:

Who will Rose choose?

Adrian (oh yeah that's my pick) or Dimitri (well I'd take him too!)

So for Tuesday Tunes my pick is going to be:

Near To You- A Fine Frenzy

Isn't that a beautiful song! I love it!
I think it's very fitting for Rose/Adrian with a hint of Dimitri?
Don't cha think?

This part screams Rose to me:

"Near to you, I am healing
But it's taking so long
'Cause though he's gone
And you are wonderful
It's hard to move on
Yet, I'm better near to you."

Happy Tuesday Peeps!

Wish List Wednesday (Dec. 8th 2010)

The biggest thing on my wish list at the moment is:

Murder. Love. Jealousy. And the ultimate sacrifice. Now, with Rose on trial for her life and Lissa first in line for the Royal Throne, nothing will ever be the same between them.

OH GOODNESS!

I can not wait to get my hands on this book! It was pure torture having to wait an entire year for this book to come out and now I can finally see who Rose will choose!

I'm a Adrian fan myself but I still have mad love for Dimitri! So I'll be happy either way lol

So who are you Team Adrian or Team Dimitri?

And how bummed are you that this is the last book in the series?

Lucky for us The Last Sacrifice by Rachelle Mead came out YESTERDAY!

So go pick up a copy, read it, and we'll discuss the like/dislikes of the Final Vampire Academy book

Review: Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Hush, Hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Length: 391 pgs
Reading Level: YA
Genre: Paranormal Romance/Fallen Angels/with a dose of Teen Angst
Rating:
 PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
As I've stated before I love me some paranormal romances! Vampires are my "thang" but thanks to Becca Fitzpatrick I can add bad boy fallen angels to the list!

Never in my life have I read a book about fallen angels...well there is the Blue Blood series but those fallen angels are actually vampires... so that doesn't count right! lol I'll just say the whole theme is (well was) totally new to me and my little brain.

In the end I decided that I LOVED IT!

The cover art was what first peaked my interest and by chapter 2 I was hooked! Patch, said fallen angel, is the biggest butthead but Becca is such a good writer that eventually you can't get enough of him (Not quite Damon Salvatore obsession for me yet, BUT way beyond Edward Cullen/Twihard obsession...seriously you'll be like Edward who?? Sparkle what?) Especially because in my mind Patch is Steven Strait *insert drool*

Photobucket

Thank you God for blessing the earth with this man candy of hotness aka Steven Strait.

...Jk Jk...

...maybe...

=P

Anyways, Nora is your typical 16 year old high school student. Well almost, you find out at the beginning that she's still healing from the sudden death of her father. You also learn about some of the struggles that she and her mother are having trying to cope and start a new life after something so tragic happens.

Nora is definitely the brainy/quiet type with the bestest best friend of them all, Vee. I was so jealous reading this book because even though Vee is more of a back ground character you figure out really quick that she is the best friend a girl could ever ask for...I've always wanted to have a friend like that but unfortunately in real life those types of relationships are few and far between. Is this a pity party?? I think not! On with the review!

Nora, by divine intervention *wink wink*, ends up getting Patch as her biology partner. He's horrible. Just horrible to her haha. Their very first assignment is to find out a few facts about each other and of course he can read Nora like an open book. Nora on the other hand can not figure anything out about Mr. Patch. Other than he's a PIA and dead sexy...of course! Nora being the smart gal that she is comes up with a variety of ways to get Patch to open up...this girl is serious about her A's...and much to her displeasure Patch is more confusing and shrouded in secrecy than the seven wonders of the world.

Probably has to do with the fact that he's a fallen angel...hellllooo...which Nora soon discovers after almost getting killed two or three times during the course of the book. Here's the kicker...is it Patch that's trying to kill Nora? Maybe...maybe not! You'll have to read it to find out!

Personal Thoughts: Simply put...I loved this book. It was an easy read because it kept me interested from the first few pages all the way to the end. Definitely left me wanting more and I really could not get enough of the characters. Nora is a little naive but good at heart. While Vee is down right hilarious (she had some fantastic one liners!). Patch, of course, is a mystery to everyone. I personally hated him in the beginning but by then end I loved his character. He's very complex that one! Crescendo is the next book in the series and let me tell you...Becca Fitzpatrick knows how to take a girl on a million different twist and turns while still have you begging for more! Loved the book. Love love love Becca Fitzpatrick (HookBookers attended a twitter party and we got to ask her a few questions...she is sooo nice and down to earth!) And I can't wait to see how everything turns out in the final book Tempest which comes out fall of next year! (Hopefully!!!)

Now it's time for the cover/description which I can't get over! Seeing it online is one thing but seeing it in person...it's gorgeous!

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen -- and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Wishlist Wednesday!

I personally can't wait for Awakened by P.C. & Kristen Cast. It's the next book in the House of Night Series.

Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa’s House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. Dominion over her immortal consort Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z. But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there. Being Queen would be cool, wouldn’t it? Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same – and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either… And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim? The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship? Does he betray his father or his heart?  In the pulse-pounding 8th book in the bestselling House of Night series, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl’s heart?

This book is set to be released January 4th, 2011. You can pre-order it now at the following stores below.
